Bible Study

Sunday Evenings 6pm on the Last Week of the Month

Is Christianity Dead?

People may think Christianity is dying, but this pronouncement is a little premature. Jesus promised to build His church, declaring that the gates of hell wouldn’t prevail against it. Along with this promise, Jesus gave clear instructions for how the church would overcome. He promised to build it on the rock of the gospel.

In this Bible study J. D. Greear examines what it means for believers to place the gospel above all other priorities in our lives and in our churches.

This Bible study will help you:
 • Overcome the temptation of worldly distractions and keep your focus on the gospel above all
 • Develop a greater awareness and engagement with gospel culture, gospel multiplication, gospel renewal, and gospel unity
 • Gain a fresh perspective on the greatness of the gospel above all other prefences and priorities

Features:

  • Videos featuring author J.D. Greear with contributors David Platt, Jen Wilkin, Vance Pitman, Walter Strickland, Rosaria Butterfield, Greg Laurie, Albert Mohler, and Kevin Smith — available with the purchase of a Leader Kit
  • 8 small-group sessions with personal devotion exercises
  • Leader guide helps to facilitate discussion with small groups (located at the back of each Bible study book)
  • Personal study segments to complete between group sessions

At the age of twenty-seven, J.D. Greear became the pastor of a forty-year-old neighborhood church. In the years since, that congregation of four hundred has grown to more than five thousand in weekly attendance. Today, the Summit Church—located in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina—is one of the fastest-growing churches in North America.

Pastor J.D.’s messages aren’t intended just to show people how to live better lives; his goal is to leave people in awe of God’s amazing love. Because of his belief in the power of the gospel, pastor J.D. has led the Summit to set a goal of planting more than one thousand gospel-centered churches in the next 40 years.

Pastor J.D. holds a PhD in systematic theology from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also lived and worked among Muslims in Southeast Asia for two years and wrote Breaking the Islam Code. J.D. and his beautiful wife, Veronica, have four ridiculously cute kids: Kharis, Alethia, Ryah, and Adon.

Unless God calls him elsewhere, pastor J.D. plans to stay at the Summit Church until he preaches his last sermon at his own funeral before saying goodbye and hopping into the casket.

made for a miracle

Beginning on Sunday evening, March 30th at 6pm, FBCS will host a Lenten focused Bible Study called Made for a Miracle. The study will include learning to use your God-given gifts and talents to become part of God’s miracles. There is a YOUTH workbook and an ADULT workbook available for $18.00.  Please mark your payment with “Made for a Miracle Book” and turn it in to the office.

Use your God-given gifts and talents to become part of God’s miracles.
At some time in our lives, most of us have prayed for or hoped for a miracle—an event that seems impossible but is brought about by God’s transcendent power. But when miracles occur, did you know that you have a role to play?

If that’s true, what’s the catch? What do we have to do? What’s it going to cost us?

Popular author and pastor Mike Slaughter examines the two components of every miracle: divine action and human responsibility. For a real miracle to take place, we must act with God, using whatever gifts, talents, and abilities we have and directing them toward God’s work. We need to follow the examples of Mary in the birth of Jesus, Jesus’ followers when he healed them, and Jesus’ disciples after he rose from the dead.

This Lent and Easter, use your God-given gifts and talents for God’s glory, and get ready to be made for a miracle.

Prayer is the most dynamic discipline in the life of a believer. Yet it may be the most misunderstood and the least taught. In this study you’ll see the significance of starting your prayers by acknowledging God as Father. You’ll learn what it means for His name to be recognized as holy. You’ll discover what you’re asking God to do when you pray for His kingdom to come and His will to be done. You’ll see what Jesus meant when He told us to ask God for daily bread. You’ll understand the importance of asking for forgiveness in your prayers. The study ends by emphasizing the need to ask God to deliver us from the evil one.

Session titles:
02/06 Our Father in Heaven
02/13 Your Name Be Honored as Holy
02/20 Your Kingdom Come, Your Will Be Done, on Earth as It Is in Heaven

An 8-Session Study From Author Jeff Vanderstelt

Do you know what’s most important in life? Do you feel too busy to make time for those things?

This study gleans wisdom from the Book of Proverbs and from the example of Jesus to show you how to center your life on God’s priorities. You will examine the things that matter most to God and to you as a follower of Christ. Then you will learn to apply godly wisdom that will help you incorporate these activities into your busy life. In some cases, you will find that you are doing the wrong things. Or you might find that you are doing the right things for the wrong reason or in the wrong way, so they are not life-giving or fulfilling.

Each week’s session will function as a stand-alone message, providing great opportunities to invite friends and engage in conversations about a given topic through the week topically (for example, a neighborhood dinner to discuss parenting together or a focused time to build a budget).

Wisdom is learning how to do the right things at the right time in the right way. Allow God to show you what is most important in life and when and how to engage in those activities.
