Good morning, Church; and welcome to Holy Week Tuesday and the third day of Spring 2016. Speaking of Spring, I want you to be honest with me–did you really believe that Spring was coming again? Seriously, stay with me; in the deep midst of Winter did the thought ever occur to you in the deepest part of your soul that Winter is reality and Spring is just an illusion? Did you ever wonder whether you would ever truly experience Spring again? Here’s my point: there are times in my life when I believe in the deepest part of my soul that THIS EARTHLY LIFE is reality and the Springlike new life I have in Jesus Christ is merely an illusion. I know; you really didn’t need to hear that confession from your Pastor, did you? But it’s true; and that’s one great reason why Holy Week and Easter are SO POWERFUL in my life–because they ASSURE me in the deepest part of my soul that my eternal life in the risen Savior is REALITY and my present earthly life is only a temporal season that I am experiencing as an alien and stranger (cf. Philippians 3:20; I Peter 2:11). So, with that in mind, let us consider today’s Holy Week Scripture readings and prayer: Psalm 6, 12; Lamentations 1:13-22; II Corinthians 1:8-22; Mark 11:26-33. “God of such unwavering love, how do I ‘celebrate’ the passion and death of Jesus? I often want to look the other way and not watch, not stay with Jesus in His suffering (WINTER). Give me the strength to see His love with honesty and compassion and to feel deeply Your own forgiveness and mercy for me (SPRING). Help me to understand how to ‘celebrate’ this week. I want to be able to bring my weaknesses and imperfections with me as I journey with Jesus this week and to be so aware of His love. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.” Thanks for listening and journeying; Blessings to all–PT.
